This award is presented to a young civil engineer (35 years of age or younger on 2/28/2026) in government service, in recognition of his/her outstanding contributions to the civil engineering profession.

Alexandra Sheng

New York State Department of Transportation

Alexa Sheng is a Design Consultant Job Manager with the New York State Department of Transportation's Region 10, overseeing the delivery of high-priority transportation projects throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Since joining NYSDOT in 2016, she has led the design and management of numerous roadway, drainage, resurfacing, and infrastructure improvement projects, including work that protects Long Island's sole-source aquifer and supports the Route 347 reconstruction program. In addition to managing multiple concurrent projects, she contributes to multimodal transportation initiatives and serves in emergency response roles through NYSDOT's Incident Command System. A dedicated mentor and advocate for the engineering profession, Alexa actively recruits future engineers and participates in outreach programs for students across Long Island.
